Borders closure

Border closure in Chile has been extended until June 30. This restricts travel abroad, both for Chilean citizens and permanent residents. In case of an extraordinary situation, a permit* to leave may be requested (through Comisaría Virtual site); for instance, in case where the trip is essential for the country, there is an humanitarian situation involved, for health reasons, or because the person is leaving Chile for good.

In addition, during the same period, the entry of foreigners not residing in Chile is prohibited, with the following exceptions:

  • Foreigners who have a marital relationship or a Civil Union Agreement (Acuerdo de Unión Civil) with a Chilean or permanent resident, celebrated in Chile or abroad, who enter as tourists.
  • Foreigners that need to enter the country for business purposes, and who represent a special utility for the country.

Chilean and foreigners must comply with specific requirements when entering Chile.

* It must be requested with a minimum of 72 hours. Its review and validation will take a minimum of 48 hours.
