The Andes, not only for ski season

Chilean ski resorts are known for its excellent conditions for sports during the southern hemisphere winter, but can you enjoy the Andes in the summertime? Absolutely! When the snow is gone, the Cordillera reveals different options for the outdoor fans.

Closed to Santiago, several activities and beautiful natural sceneries are available: horseback riding, mountain bike, hiking, tubing, canopy, chairlift or just sitting at a nice restaurant to relax and enjoy the panoramic view.

At Valle Nevado resort, 35 miles northeast of Santiago, you’ll find the first ski gondola in Chile operating since summer 2013. This chairlift traverses nearly 1,000 meters to reach a final altitude of 3,200 meters above sea level.

For those who would prefer something a little bit more intense, you can explore one of the most attractive routes, El Plomo Peak, along the Inca trails (where you’ll hear the story of the Incan child, a mummy found in 1954) and finishing with the beautiful view of Laguna Piuquenes. The ride takes around 4.5 hours and once at the top, you will be amazed with the dimensions of the largest mountain range in the world. And if you’re lucky, you’ll get to see the flight of an Andean condor.
