Online visa stamping replaces in-person processing

Due to the pandemic, since March, 2020, the Chilean Immigration Department (Departamento de Extranjería e Inmigración) implemented the Electronic Provisional Stamping (EPE), to avoid crowds for obtaining or renewing the visa; a measure that originally had a duration of six months.

As from September 23rd, this online procedure will replace permanently the in-person visa stamping. All foreigners who have been granted a residence visa in Chile and who have not yet stamped it in their passports or residence titles, will be able to access the Estampado Electrónico (EE), once Extranjería has corroborated the compliance with the requirements and the corresponding payment.

In case of dependants (those who are economically supported in Chile by a holder of a residence visa), they will be able to obtain their Estampado Electrónico (EE) one week after the holder of the visa has obtained his/her own.

This is excellent news that will save not only time but also a lot of bad times!
