New rules to enter Chile

The Chilean government announced this November 29 the following changes regarding entry into the country:

  • Visitors without a Chilean passport or visa who have been in one of the seven African countries in the last 14 days (South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Botswana, Lesotho, Swatini and Mozambique) will not be allowed to enter.
  • The announced rule that travelers with booster vaccination can bypass the PCR test is suspended. Everyone must take this mandatory test at entry and wait for the result before continuing to travel. As of December 1, the PCR test will be at the traveler's expense, with a maximum of $40.
  • Also as of December 1, after the entry PCR test, travelers may travel to another city in Chile, even fly, and wait for the result there.
  • The announced opening of the Chacalluta (Arica), Colchane (Iquique) and Pino Hachado (Araucanía) border crossings is postponed. No new date has been mentioned; therefore, entry to Chile remains possible only by air.
  • In addition, only fully vaccinated persons are allowed to enter Chile, and whose vaccinations have been previously validated through the site mevacuno.gob.cl (processing time of up to three weeks). After that, the traveler will receive the so-called Mobility Pass.
  • The booster vaccines can now be entered and validated a posteriori on the aforementioned portal.
  • As of January 1, the Mobility Pass will only be activated for adults who can provide proof of a booster vaccination if their second vaccination was performed more than 6 months ago at the time of entry.
  • The Mobility Pass is valid indefinitely from the time of activation.
