Providencia: A green, well-connected and diverse district in Santiago

Many Chileans and especially foreigners prefer to buy or rent in the district of Providencia. Why? There are several reasons. Starting with its parks, green neighbourhoods and central location. Providencia is very well connected as it borders the district of Santiago Centro to the west and, to the east, the district of Las Condes, Ñuñoa to the south and Recoleta to the north.

Another reason why people love this area is its lovely residential neighbourhoods: Pedro Valdivia Norte, on the northern side of the Mapocho river, Dalmacia, with its colourful houses, Inés de Suárez, with its well-known park, to name a few.

In addition, the district of Providencia has neighbourhoods of great commercial activity such as the popular Costanera Center mall, Drugstore or Pedro de Valdivia Square areas.

And of course, there are places with a bohemian accent and an active nightlife, such as the well-known Barrio Bellavista, Tobalaba, Manuel Montt and Italia neighbourhoods.

This district also charms with the diversity of its houses. You can find modern glass buildings next to 30 or 40-year-old buildings. These coexist peacefully with typical areas such as the Barrio de las Flores where its mostly houses; a neighbourhood that stands out for its proximity to the Club Providencia, where you find all types of sports and activities. In addition, there is a wide range of gyms, yoga, dance and martial arts centres for all tastes and of the most varied styles.

Renting in Providencia

The cost of renting in Providencia is quite varied but still moderate compared to the neighbouring district of Las Condes, although some small mansions as well as modern flats located close to the metro can reach higher prices.

Anyway, in Providencia there are always many options if you are looking to live in this popular area of santiago.

And if you are looking for schools, this district doesn’t fall behind: There are many Catholic schools for boys, girls or mixed, private English schools and also public high schools.

What else do you need? Medical facilities? You can also find them in Providencia. There is the Hospital del TrabajadorClínica Santa MaríaClínica IndisaHospital SalvadorHospital Calvo Mackenna, Arturo López Pérez Foundation and many private and public medical centers that will provide a great service if need it.

And last but not least, something that everyone loves about this district: its connectivity through the public transport system. On its main roads – Avenida Providencia, Av. Tobalaba, Av. Francisco de Bilbao, Av. Andrés Bello, Av. Vicuña Mackenna – and many other streets, buses travel to and from all directions in the Greater Santiago Area. And through Providencia lines 1, 4, 5 and 6 of the Metro, the subway that allows you to move quickly and safely throughout Santiago.

In total, the district has 11 metro stations, the most important ones being Baquedano, Los Leones and Tobalaba, where you can find the connections to other subway lines. More information: Metro de Santiago
