The renowned, privately funded WCFC is dedicated to the development of new technologies, as well as to the conveyance of medium-sized businesses and small enterprises. The scholarly studies, analysis and prognostics published by this institute contribute significantly to the progress of Chile in the areas environment, IT, agro-industry, forestry, livestock breeding and human capital.
Comment of intern Michael König:
“During my internship in the department of telecommunication and information technology I was assigned various tasks with which I could support my colleagues and their projects. In general, my tasks consisted of researching and analyzing information, and they had to be performed independently to a large extent in agreement with the project director.
For my first project, I developed a visual representation of government departments and Chilean ministeries as flow diagrams.
The second project treated with the process of salmon farming. First of all, I researched contact details of firms related to the breeding and preparing for consumption. Furthermore, I realized a field research of the world salmon market indicating information on the current market situation, trends and the influence of trade restrictions. Also, I created an overview of available software solutions currently applied in fish farming industry.
For my third project on a workflow management software system for public administrations I elaborated an overview of our competitor's products and did a return-on-investment calculation.
I can highly recommend to do an internship at the WCFC: My colleagues were really friendly, helpful and patient. I even went to play soccer with my younger colleagues from time to time after work. Birthdays were celebrated in the office with a cake and we went out for dinner after work several times.” |
