Room or apartment?
The decision to rent a room or an apartment will always depend on your personal expectations and your budget.
Renting a room allows you to get to know chileans more easily and in general it is less expensive than renting an apartment. Additionally, if you do not like the room, it is likely that we can find you an alternative quickly. The is dependent on different features for example the neighbourhood, equipment, private/shared bathroom, vicinity to the subway, etc. All rooms are furnished, individual rooms and cost between 170 and 400 USD per month the standard being between 200 and 300 USD, not including food, for a single room. There are double room options for two people traveling together as well.
How to rent a room
On the other hand in your own apartment you will have more privacy and independence from others. However the process of renting an apartment is more formal and requires more responsibility since you have to sign a contract and pay a security deposit of a one months rent in advance. Rents, as everywhere, depend on the neighborhood and the standard of the apartment. In Santiago, a furnished apartment with one or two rooms in a good neighborhood as Providencia or Las Condes will set you back between 350 and 800 USD per month, plus expenses.
